Students Leave Early Over Gang Violence Fear

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- About 50 Hillsboro High School parents picked up their children early from school Tuesday, most listing "danger" as the reason on the school checkout sheet.

The school wasn't on lockdown, but there were rumors and threats of retaliation gang violence in connection with a 16-year-old Hillsboro student shot over the weekend. He's the third Hillsboro student killed in the last three months.

Many students said they were told there would be a shootout at school Tuesday. As a result, parents were allowed to come get their kids.

No weapons had been found Tuesday afternoon, but the lunch schedule has been adjusted so that fewer students would be at lunch at once.

There were about 12 Metro police gang unit cars in front of the school.
